Background

For many years we offered Vitalzym Systemic Enzymes from World Nutrition. Many people liked those products; so for those of you who were happy with the regular Vitalzym, here is that original formulation form the original formulator at a lower cost to you -- Exclzyme. If you prefer a stonger formulation that addresses a wider range of issues, you’ll want the Serracor-NK at an affordable price. With either of these products, we feel you will get results by taking fewer capsules.

What are Enzymes?

Enzymes are bio-catalysts, i.e., substances which accelerate a certain chemical reaction without actually being consumed themselves. They are found in every cell of all living beings, from simple single cellular organisms to highly complex multicellular organisms, including human beings.

ENZYMES form an important part of our daily lives; from assisting in the production of the food we eat, to contributing to the care of our health by providing therapeutic agents or sensitive and specific diagnostic tests.

The most frequent biochemical reaction used when applying industrial enzymes is the hydrolytic decomposition of high molecular weight substances such as starch, proteins, cellulose, etc. ENZYMES are composed of proteins and also react as such. They occur throughout nature and control the build-up and decomposition of essential matter in vegetable and animal organisms. By "production", what is really meant is the isolation and purification of enzymes derived from micro-organisms, animal organs, or vegetable extracts.

The knowledge of some special properties is necessary for handling of industrial enzyme products. Each type of enzyme has a certain pH range in which its affect is optimal. The activity increases with the rise of temperature, until heat inactivation takes place. Apart from a change in pH value or exposure to heat, enzymes are also inactivated by heavy metal ions and protein precipitating agents. Full activity will be maintained in dilute solutions for a few hours only. Liquid products should be stored in cool conditions, whereas dry storage is particularly important for products in powder form.

A specific enzyme will normally catalyze only the reaction for which nature has designed them, e.g. a pectinase can only degrade pectin, not starch or cellulose.

Biotechnology has assumed far greater significance in the past ten years. Several enzymes, which were available in research quantities, only are now commercially available. The opportunities for using enzymes increase daily, as does the skill required to research, develop, and market these vitally important products to a whole range of industries throughout the world.

A recent rough estimate of the world market for industrial enzymes put the sales at around 95,000 tons of commercial product. Predictions of growth of the market forecast a rise to 10 - 15% per year.

There are only about 25 enzyme-producing companies in the world. In the Western nations, almost half of all enzyme production is in Denmark, with Holland producing the further 20 %. American production is responsible for about 12%, mainly for their captive use. Japan, West Germany, France, Switzerland, Ireland, and UK account for the remainder of the enzyme production. Production in the Russian states and China are significant, but not readily quantified, since virtually none of the products are made available to the Western nations. In India, Specialty Enzymes is the only major enzyme manufacturing company.

Sources and Types of Enzymes

Around 80% of all industrial enzymes are hydrolytic in action and they are used for depolymerization ( i.e. breaking down of complex molecules in to simpler molecules.) of natural substances. Almost 60% of these are proteolytic, for use by the detergent, dairy and leather industries. The charbohydrases, used in baking, distilling, brewing, starch and textile industries, represent almost 30% of the total enzyme usage, leaving the lipases and highly specialized enzymes, such as pharmaceutical, analytic, and developmental.

There are three major sources of enzymes: Plant Enzymes, Animal Enzymes, and Microbial Enzymes.

PLANT ENZYMES: These are enzymes basically derived from plants. These include the well known proteases such as papain, bromelain, ficin and the amylolytic enzymes of the cereals, soybean lipoxygenase, and specialized enzymes from the citrus fruits. Most plant enzymes are available as comparatively unpurified powder extracts, although papain is notable for being recently available as a stabilized and purified liquid.

ANIMAL ENZYMES: These are enzymes which are basically derived from animal glands. These include the pancreatic trypsins, lipases, rennets, and other enzymes such as pepsin, which are produced in both ultra pure and industrial bulk qualities.

MICROBIAL ENZYMES: These are enzymes derived from micro-organisms and include fungal and bacterial amylases, diastases, etc.. Most industrial microbial enzymes are produced from no more than eleven (11) fungal, eight (8) bacteria, and four (4) yeasts.

Stability and Composition

It is not sensible to give a specific enzyme product composition, as there is a huge variation potency and physical presentation. Those produced by extraction from plant and animal tissues will contain different substances, in addition to the active enzyme, than those from microbial fermentations. Apart from noting the small proportion that is actually active enzyme protein, sugars and inorganic salts, are used as alternatives when establishing the stability of the finished product for storage and distribution, and are selected according to the acceptability in the intended application. Salts and sometimes carbohydrates such as starch, are used to dilute extracted enzymes to standard activity.

Preservatives are generally restricted to liquid enzyme preparation.

Industrial enzymes are commonly used at levels of 0.1 to 0.5% of the substrate ( i.e. substance on which the enzyme is expected to act. ) being processed, with rare exceptions above these levels.

Generally, dry enzyme products have a longer shelf-life than liquids, and cool conditions extend their shelf-life even further. Dry products should not lose more than 15-20% of their activity over a 12 month period from the date of manufacture if stored in a cool dry place (optimal storage 23° C or below). Liquid enzymes should have a shelf life of 3 months at 25°C and approximately six months if stored at 0° to 4° C.

Processing Enzymes Selection

Generally, the following factors are considered while selecting an enzyme for a particular process with activities that appear appropriate.

a) Specificity: It is of prime importance to understand that enzymes are very specific in their action, i.e. one enzyme will act on only one specific substrate only to give a particular result. The generally claimed specific action of enzymes is not as sharply defined as it is often expected. Proteases are broad in the range of amino acid bonds they hydrolyze and exhibit only a degree of specificity. Among the carbohydrates, there are both highly specific enzymes, such as the components of the pectinolytic group or the lactases, and also broad acting amylases and beta-glucosidases. Within any group there are small differences of action depending upon the source and the type of enzyme, and these can be used to advantage in obtaining precise reaction products. Thus, the first question will be to determine what degree of specificity is required in the reaction.

b) pH : Each enzyme acts in a particular range of pH. Both the optimum operating value determined under analytical conditions, and the actual ability of the proposed industrial system to adjust away from the possibly unsuitable pH in relation to the enzyme stage, must be considered. Some limits will be dictated by the practicalities of the overall process, and these may influence the choice of a particular enzyme among alternatives. Again, the operation of an enzyme outside the anticipated best performance range may modify it's specificity or sensitivity to heat in both beneficial or adverse ways.

c) Temperature: When considering enzyme processes, the general rule is that the temperature quotient is between 1.8 to 2.0. The reaction rate generally increases or decreases by this order for each shift of 10° C. By using high temperatures, the reaction may be of short duration and hygienic conditions may be maintained more easily. Conversely, the use of much greater heat for thermolabile enzymes, (enzymes sensitive to heat) will be necessary to inactivate the enzymes at the end of the process. Alternatively, a significant shift of pH may be necessary to inactivate without a rise in temperature. This may not be necessary in every process.

d) Activators and Inhibitors: These are usually well defined for specific enzymes and should be taken into account if they create expensive additional costs, or costly treatments to insure their elimination from reaction. Under certain circumstances, the deliberate omission of a known activator will alter the pH or temperature sensitivity of an enzyme to an extent that limits the reaction or simplifies the end process inactivation conditions.

e) Analysis Method: This is an essential tool in process control and the detection of low levels of activity when monitoring for residual action after an inactivation treatment. Many industrial users of enzymes also maintain routine activity checks on stock enzymes to ensure good stock rotation. Therefore, when selecting an enzyme, it is helpful to have one with an established analytical method readily available.

f) Technical Support and Service: Major improvements in the range of industrial enzymes are regular occurrences, and it is important to establish that the selected enzyme is the most up to date of it's type, and that the performance data and guidance on it's application are regularly updated.

g) Cost: This is a serious factor when choosing an enzyme for many processes. Clearly, no more expensive product than that necessary for the action should be selected. However, care has to be taken to establish that purity and activity are consistent and that any side activities have been identified, at least those that might influence the processing and product under consideration.

Fibrin performs an important function in the body, including clotting and wound healing. However, excessive fibrin can impede normal blood flow, which may lead to increased blood viscosity, swelling, edema, pain, inflammation and more serious cardiovascular events. The proteases in Serracor-NK reduce fibrin levels and improve viscosity and over all blood circulation.

Serracor-NK Ingredients

SEBkinase is a systemic enzyme blend of two enteric coated, fibrinolytic proteases: Peptizyme SP (Serrapeptase) & NattoSEB (our Nattokinase contains NO Vitamin K).

NATTOKINASE (NattoSEB) is derived from natto, a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans. Natto has been known for centuries for its positive medicinal properties, particularly for cardiovascular disorders. To make nattô, soybeans are fermented with the beneficial bacteria Bacillus natto (sometimes listed as Bacillus subtilis natto). During fermentation, the Bacilli produce enzymatic proteases, the most important of which is nattokinase. Like other proteases, nattokinase has potent anti-inflammatory activity, as well as several other beneficial properties, including fibrinolytic activity. A researcher, Hiroyuki Sumi, identified the active enzyme in natto and demonstrated its ability to dissolve vascular blood clots. He called this enzyme "nattokinase"-meaning "enzyme in natto."

SERRAPEPTASE (Peptizyme SP) is an enzyme derived from a species of bacteria originally found in the intestine of silkworms. The bacteria, Serratia mercesans produces the enzyme that enables the silkworm to dissolve its silken cocoon and emerge after metamorphosis. Serratia is now grown in cultures to produce serrapeptase by fermentation. Numerous research and clinical studies demonstrate serrapeptase's formidable anti-inflammatory, proteolytic (protein dissolving) and fibrinolytic (fibrin dissolving) properties. They also show that scar tissue is greatly reduced and proteins involved in the inflammatory process are effectively digested. Serrapeptase is a protease that has been used in Japan and Europe for over four decades for its anti-inflammatory activity.

BROMELAIN is a collective name for the proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzymes found in the pineapple plant (Ananas comosus), and is known for its digestive as well its anti-inflammatory properties. Because of its activity across a wide pH range, bromelain is a good substitute for pepsin and trypsin for both digestive and systemic support.

PAPAIN is a widely used enzyme obtained from the latex of the fruit of the Papaya tree (Carica papaya). Papain has been used for centuries as an effective digestive aid.

LIPASE catalyzes the break-down of fats into essential fatty acids that are needed for healthy tissues and cells.

PROTEASES are enzymes that hydrolyze (break-down) proteins like meat, casein, gelatin, soy, fish and other plant and animal proteins to smaller chains of polypeptides (small proteins) and amino acids for easier uptake throughout the body.

RUTIN is a bioflavonoid that strengthens and tones arteries and veins and provides antioxidant support against free-radicals and inflammation.

AMLA, or Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis), is a natural and efficacious antioxidant. It is one of the richest sources of absorbable vitamin C available.

COENZYME Q10 is an essential enzyme and cofactor in metabolism that is naturally made and stored in the liver, kidneys, and heart. It is a vital part of energy production and overall cell health.

MAGNESIUM is an essential mineral used as a cofactor by over 350 enzymes in the body. Magnesium is critical part of cardiovascular and nerve physiology. It helps relax arteries and assists in proper nerve impulse function.

Full Strength Exclzyme: 2 Capsules Per Serving - The Original Formula

You may have been using the original Exclzyme formulation and just didn't know it. The Exclzyme formulation is the most successful non-animal derived systemic enzyme blend on the market today. It has been commercially available for many years and marketed successfully by many other companies under different brand names. As such, it was incorporated into a number of these companies' proprietary formulas each using the Exclzyme formulation in different amounts. However those days are over: Full Strength Exclzyme -- the original 2 capsule serving is here!

Why Exclzyme?

Elimination of potentially toxic substances from the body is a crucial part in the processes for optimal health. Without a proper store of enzymes or if toxins within the body impair enzyme function or availability, a variety of health issues may develop.

For instance, the immune system can become overwhelmed with foreign substances such as bacteria, fungi, toxins, and even food particles which may not get completely digested in the GI tract. In many instances, proteins which the body may detect as foreign usually initiate an immune response. Recognized as antigens, the immune system produces antibodies to start the process of their degradation and removal. After coupling with one another, these antigens and antibodies form circulating immune complexes (CICs) which induce attack and destruction by the immune system's macrophages (cells specifically designed to destroy CICs.) In cases where inflammation is prolonged or when CICs are predominant within the body's tissues and organs, the body may not have enough enzyme potential to begin the next process of renewal and recovery. Moreover, research has demonstrated that a lack of proteolytic enzymes may not adequately address a large accumulation of CIC's in the body.

To address this problem, Exclzyme has been formulated with an ample supply of various proteases to facilitate the body's immune defenses and breakdown free-roaming CICs which can keep the body in a constant state of inflammation. Exclzyme also contains papain and bromelain which are traditionally known for their potent digestive and systemic properties. The serrapeptase featured in the Exclzyme highlights this powerful mix of proteolytic enzymes with its scientifically proven fibrinolytic power. In addition to these systemic and digestive proteases, lipase and amylase also offer their own enzyme activity to bolster the body with extra catalytic energy, especially for the complete digestion of fats, sugar and protein complexes. And for extra synergy, Exclzyme is rounded with anti-oxidant support in the form of rutin and amla -- well-known for their unique bioflavanoid content -- specially for tissue rejuvenation and recovery.

Q & A

What are Enzymes?
Enzymes are found in every cell of every living plant and animal, including humans. Enzymes are biocatalysts, which means that they either begin a reaction or cause a reaction to speed up. Without enzymes life would not exist.

How do enzymes work?
Enzymes work by virtue of their shape. An enzyme molecule can be compared, in shape at least, to many short strings of pearls (amino acids) strung together. This long string folds in on itself as certain sequences of amino acids (pearls) are more attracted to each other than to other sequences, thus giving the enzymes a specific shape. At one point on the surface of this string of pearls, there exists something which looks like a keyhole. This is called the active site on the enzyme. When matched with its specific coenzyme (a vitamin, mineral or trace element) this lock has the exact inverse contour of the key, which is contained in the molecule of the enzyme’s substrate (the molecule that the enzyme wants to transform into a different molecule). When the substrate appears, it inserts the key into the lock. The molecular structure of the substrate is transformed into a different molecular structure, and both enzyme and the newly-formed molecule go on their merry little ways.

What is a digestive enzyme?
A digestive enzyme breaks down the proteins, fats and carbohydrates in food during the digestive process allowing the body to better utilize the food you eat.

What is a proteolytic enzyme?
The proteolytic enzyme digests protein. Some examples of proteolytic enzymes are protease, serrapeptase, bromelain and papain.

What is a lipase enzyme?
Lipase enzymes digest fat.

What is an amylase enzyme?
Amylase enzymes digest carbohydrates.

What is systemic enzyme therapy?
Systemic enzyme therapy is utilizing enzyme supplementation to increase the enzymes throughout your body to assist in restoring the body to health.

What else are enzymes used for?
Enzymes are widely used in the food industry. Enzymes are also essential in the manufacture of beer.

Are enzymes considered ‘anti-inflammatory’ drugs?
Proteolytic enzymes are considered anti-inflammatory agents.

Are there any compatibility issues with any prescribed drugs?

Yes, customers using anti-coagulants, or blood thinners, should not sue Vitalzym without the consent of their physician. The enzymes enhance the effects of the blood-thinning medications, making them stronger.

Does weather affect your products?
Exposure to heat over 150◦ for an extended period of time can destroy the enzymes. Store your Vitalzym in a cool, dry place, with the lid of the bottle tightly closed.

Systemic Enzymes, Scar Tissue, Uterine Fibroids, Inflammation, Toxins in the Blood

An enzyme is a biocatalyst -- something that makes something else work or work faster. Without enzymes, the chemical reactions that make up our life would be too slow for life as we know it.

For life to manifest, as we know it, enzymes are essential to speed up the reactions. We have roughly 3,000 enzymes in our bodies and over 7,000 enzymic reactions. The body-wide protein-eating enzymes have the following actions:

Autoimmune Conditions

Enzymes are adaptogenic, seeking to restore a steady state to the body. When the immune system is running low, we become susceptible to infectious disease. When it's cranked up too high, then the system creates antibodies that attack its own tissues, as are seen in the autoimmune diseases of MS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Lupus.

Uterine Fibroid Tumors

With ever-diminishing enzyme levels, internal organs begin to collect deposits of fibrin, causing women to develop conditions such as uterine fibroid tumors and fibrocystic breast disease, especially when coupled with estrogen dominance. Replacing enzymes through supplementation assists the body in eliminating abnormal formation of fibrous tissue.

Inflammation

When an injury occurs, the body responds with an inflammatory cascade. Excessive inflammation can retard the healing process. Proteolytic enzyme supplementation reduces inflammation by neutralizing bradykinins and pro-inflammatory eicosanoids to levels where the synthesis, repair and regeneration of injured tissues can begin. Proteolytic enzymes do not completely inhibit all phases of the inflammatory cascade to a point where the body is unable to trigger the normal healing process.

Fibrosis of the Organs / Scar Tissue

Enzymes eat scar tissue and fibrosis. Fibrosis is scar tissue and most doctors learn in anatomy that it is fibrosis that eventually kills us all. As we age, which starts at 27, we have a diminishing of the body's output of enzymes. This is because we make a finite amount of enzymes in a lifetime and we use up a good deal of them by the time we reach our 40's . If we replace the lost enzymes, we can control and reduce the amount of scar tissue and fibrosis our bodies have.

Toxins and Impurities in the Blood

Enzymes improve circulation by eating the excess fibrin that causes blood to sometimes get as thick as yogurt leading to the formation of clots, the leading causes of stroke and heart attack. Enzymes break dead material down small enough that it can immediately pass into the bowel and cleanse the FC receptors on the white blood cells, improving their function and availability to fight off infection.

Viruses

Viruses harm us by replicating in our bodies. To do this, a virus must bond itself to the DNA in our cells through the medium of its exterior protein cell wall. The Serrapeptase content of systemic enzymes can be helpful in combating viruses. -Paul Fitzgerald

Newsletter Notes

- I just realized that I have not made arrangements to get stocks of the new Serracor-NK enzyme here in Australia . . . I want to start on this one immediately. I have a strong intuition that Serracor-NK is going to be just the thing for me to deal with gardening aches and soreness.

- Tonight we are also announcing the availability of a new line of systemic enzymes. Actually, I have stayed in touch with this company for the last six years but was not willing to move away from the Vitalzym products from World Nutrition. I just didn't want to fix something that wasn't broken, even though AST carries the original formulation of Vitalzym that we were originally so excited about.

That original product is no longer available from World Nutrition, and other products with which our Members were very pleased have also dropped away.  We have recently learned that World Nutrition is involved in some level of bankruptcy, and that probably has a lot to do with the products that are no longer available. Additionally, we have found the company to be more and more difficult to deal with administratively, and that probably also relates to their financial situation. Add to that the fact that the World Nutrition products are more expensive. Well, we felt it was time to make the change.

I guess it isn't so much a change as it is a matter of offering our Members more affordable options. At least for a while, we will continue to offer the World Nutrition products, but we feel certain that in a short while, Members will naturally opt for superior products and/or much more favorable pricing. I should mention that the new Serracore product is probably the most powerful and effective systemic enzyme that we have ever offered . . . and at a very attractive price.

We are hoping to have a Free CD available very soon, and our product representative has offered quite a number of testimonials that will help our Members understand the products and the conditions they have been successful in addressing. I loved the original formulation of Vitalzym, but as it changed and was reformulated, I drifted away from using it.  After reading about the Serracore product, I feel a need to make it a part of my daily regimen . . . good stuff and good value.

Testimonials

Nasy Scar and Serracor . . . I have been using your replacement for Vitalzym, Serracor-NK, for about a month now. I had to have a biopsy on my left leg for possible  cancer. None found but left an ugly scar. It was deep like the size of a screw and left a topical scar about 1/2 inch. My doctor, when she saw it, said she wouldn't do that to me again as it took 6 months to close and was nasty looking.

Since on Serracor-NK it has been closing up and is now about 1/8  inch in diameter. Probably ate up the unhealed part inside. I was telling Robert at your Arizona office and he thought that was amazing as I still had a few of Vitalzym X left but it didn't do much of anything. J.S.

Pulmonary Fibrosis and Serracor
. . . Three doctors said I had Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and a maximum of 3 to 5 years to live. I got on my computer and found information on Serracor. That was 7 years ago after their diagnosis. I'm still here and thank the good Lord for everything. G. Williams

Pain, Inflammation and Serracor . . . My husband has swelling on the knee. After taking just 2 Serracor capsules, swelling went down in a few hours, so he takes it daily. He said he has almost no pain after 3 days of taking mine! P. Schmidt

Scar Tissue, Adhesions and Serracor . . . In my younger years, I underwent 4 C-Sections and a hysterectomy, which later evolved into four more surgeries to remove scar tissue with no enduring success. Then I discovered Serracor-NK. After 11 months the adhesions were gone, chronic pain -- nearly unbearable -- was gone. One mass attached itself to the peritoneum (membrane which surrounds stomach), and when stomach was either full or empty, the pain was excruciating! My health has been restored. I am now taking the maintenance dose of Serracor-NK along with Serra RX, and will happily do so for the rest of my life! I suffered unbelievably for a total of four years after surgeries, but now life is wonderful. M.G., US

Endometriosis and Serracor . . . I cannot do without your Serracor-NK product. I have been plagued with horrible endometriosis pain for the last five years and only after taking your product for one month, the pain is completely gone. S.D., US
