Myristin
In most cases Myristin® is used for a little over two months as a dietary supplement. Myristin® softgels are the only 40% CMO softgels on the market. The large amount of CMO per softgel (260 mg) allows consumers to take fewer capsules daily and to consume the recommended amount of product in a shorter time.
Myrist-Aid
Myrist-Aid is a synergistic capsule which is taken with Myristin®. Myrist-Aid is designed to be supportive and aid in absorption when taking Myristin.
For best effects, Myrist-Aid should be taken for 3-6 months after Myristin® is completed.
Myristin Topical Cream
Myristin Topical Cream is an excellent helper. Myristin Topical Cream is for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains associated with arthritis.
EHP Products, Our Supplier
Harry W. Diehl discovered cetyl myristoleate (CMO) in 1964 in his home laboratory. While he was employed then at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, CMO was his personal, off-duty project. He received a U.S. patent on CMO initially in 1977 (U.S. Patent #4,049,824). He later received an entirely new patent in 1996 (U.S. Patent #5,569,676). EHP Products is now the owner of this patent. Mr. Diehl tried unsuccessfully to get some large companies, such as Pfizer and Merck, to accept his discovery for research and marketing but they declined, possibly due to rules concerning patents on natural products. Despite owning these two patents, Mr. Diehl was unfamiliar with the marketing of natural products, so, unfortunately, CMO remained unknown to users of natural products until 1996.
EHP Products, Inc. was founded in 1995 by Elaine Parrish, Mr. Diehl's daughter. Mr. Diehl wanted to assure a way for this astounding discovery to reach the public in his original oil formula, and Elaine was willing to form a company to distribute his formula of cetyl myristoleate which EHP Products Inc. trade named Myristin. In 1996, Mr. Diehl assigned his most recent patent to EHP Products. EHP is the only company in the world to market a 40% CMO softgel.
EHP Products is proud to have many MD's, DO's, ND's, DC's, DPM's, DVM's, and other healthcare professionals among its many customers. EHP Products is proud to be the only marketer of 40% CMO oil to softgel, lotion, cream and liquids manufacturers, health food stores and physicians.
Beware of other Brands Containing CMO
Myristin® is labeled in accordance with FDA labeling regulations. We list on the label the exact amount of cetyl myristoleate, 260 mg, in the serving size of one softgel. If the label of a competitive CMO product does not comply with FDA label regulations, it is difficult if not impossible for the consumer to know the CMO content. For example, the CMO product of one of the nation's largest dietary supplement companies lists "Cetyl Myristoleate Proprietary Blend, 1100 mg" (this amount is in two capsules). This label makes it appear as if the amount of CMO per capsule is 550 mg., while the actual amount of CMO per capsule is approximately 70 mg.
Consumers must be cautious in order not to be misled by exaggerated or confusing claims of the amount of CMO per capsule or softgel. The 650 mg of CMO oil in each Myristin® softgel, yielding 260mg of CMO is the most in the world. Some websites or product labels that claim large quantities of cetyl myristoleate, such as actual websites which claim 380 mg or 500 mg, are misleading, since the cited quantity is the amount of mixed cetyl esters, not actual cetyl myristoleate.
Q & A
1. How was CMO discovered?
Harry W. Diehl, who retired after 40 years of service at the National Institutes of Health, discovered CMO. After his retirement, Mr. Diehl was able to work on his discovery full-time, which resulted in two U.S. patents being issued to him for CMO.
2. Where is CMO found In nature?
CMO is found in sperm whales, mice, and beavers. Myristin, Help’s registered brand name of CMO, is produced synthetically in an organics plant in the U.S. Fatty acids derived from the large-scale commercial manufacture of oleic acid are used as the source for myristoleic acid.
3. How is CMO supplied?
CMO is encapsulated in softgel capsules. Each softgel contains 260 mg. of elemental CMO, 238 mg. of cetyl oleate, and 152 mg. of other cetyl esters, such as cetyl myristate, for a total of 650 mg of "mixed cetyl esters". There are 51 capsules per bottle, supplying 13.25 grams of CMO over 17 days.
4. How is CMO taken?
CMO is best taken on an empty stomach about 30-45 minutes before meals 3 times daily for up to two months. However, it is fine to take Myristin® after meals if you wish. Most people and animals take Myristin® for two months, after which no more may be needed for a year or two, but some individuals may need to take another two month course sooner, and some may need a regular maintenance course.
5. Do I need to keep taking CMO month after month?
No. For most people and animals, up to 2 months usage is all that will be needed for up to one, two, or sometimes more years. However some individuals may need another two month course sooner, and some may need to take a maintenance course of three to five softgels weekly.
6. What else Is taken with CMO?
EHP Products developed an exclusive synergistic formula called Myrist-Aid to accompany Myristin® brand of CMO. Myrist-Aid contains glucosamine sulfate, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), bromelain, curcumin, manganese, vitamin C, and, to help with absorption of CMO, lecithin and lipase. Eight Myrist-Aid are taken daily, divided into three doses to accompany the three Myristin® softgels. We also recommend concurrent use of Myristin Topical Cream with Myristin® and Myrist-Aid.
7. What can you tell me about Myristin Topical Cream?
Myristin Topical Cream is a companion product which is used in conjunction with Myristin and Myrist-Aid. It is sold in two ounce jars for topical application to affected joints. Under regulations of the Food and Drug Administration, we can claim that Myristin TC is beneficial for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains associated with arthritis.
8. Can I use Myristin® with the medications I use regularly?
Yes. While there are no known contraindications or interactions with Myristin®, it is always a good practice to consult with your healthcare professional before starting on something new.
9. Will my diet affect CMO?
Some items in diets do conflict with beneficial oils that cartilage in joints needs to remain healthy. Most notably, these are carbonated cola beverages, tea, and citrus juices, such as orange and grapefruit juices. On the days Myristin is taken, it is helpful to avoid consumption of such items for at least one hour before and one hour after CMO is taken. If you normally consume citrus products at breakfast, you can change the Myristin®/Myrist-Aid from before breakfast to bedtime.
10. Can I take CMO if I have Allergies?
Myristin® contains no preservatives. It contains no sodium, no sugar, no soy and no cholesterol. It has not been known to cause allergic reaction in anyone. If you have a history of severe allergies, it is always a good idea to consult with your healthcare professional before starting to take anything new.
11. What if I am pregnant or have a medical condition?
As with any substance, pregnant women or nursing mothers should use CMO only after consulting with their health care professional. It is a good idea to keep your healthcare professional aware of all supplements you are taking if you have a serious medical condition.
12. Can I give Myristin® to my child?
Myristin® dietary supplement should be given to children only on the advice of a qualified healthcare profession and in the amounts specified by the healthcare professional.
13. What about medical advice?
Anyone with medical questions about Myristin® or questions about whether it should be used should consult his or her healthcare professional. Nothing in this web site is intended as nor should be construed as medical advice. Only a licensed physician or other healthcare professional can give medical advice.
14. Can my dog use CM?
Most certainly. EHP sells almost as much CMO for veterinary use as it does for human use. In conjunction with our veterinarian customers EHP has developed a protocol for usage in animals. A copy can be requested by e-mailing, writing or calling EHP Products.
15. Comparison Shopping for the best value?
Myristin® has been marketed by the family of Harry W. Diehl since 1996. EHP Products has by far the longest tenure of any company in providing CMO to the world market. The quality and quantity of CMO in our products has never been in doubt, since Harry W. Diehl always checked our products for us before his death. In checking the CMO content of other companies' products, there was sometimes far less than the labeled amount. You can count on Myristin® to be a product that contains what the label says at a low price.
Not all labels of CMO products comply with FDA label regulations, and in such cases it is impossible for the consumer to know the CMO content. For example, the CMO product of one of the nation's largest dietary supplement companies lists "Cetyl Myristoleate Proprietary Blend, 1100 mg" (this amount is in two capsules). This label makes it appear as if the amount of CMO is 1100 mg, while the actual amount of CMO per capsule is approximately 70 mg.
Also, do not be misled by exaggerated or confusing claims of the amount of CMO per capsule or softgel. It is difficult for encapsulators to get more than 550 mg of CMO powder in a 00 size capsule. With 20% CMO powder, this would yield 110 mg per capsule. Websites or product labels that claim larger quantities of cetyl myristoleate, such as actual websites claiming 380 mg or 500 mg of CMO, are misleading, since the cited quantity is the amount of the mixed cetyl esters, not actual cetyl myristoleate.
Being Cautious: If the label does not state the exact amount of cetyl myristoleate and the other significant cetyl esters, such as cetyl myristate, cetyl oleate, and so forth; or, if you call the distributors and they cannot or will not tell you the per cent of cetyl myristoleate in the mixture of cetyl esters; or, if there is not even a phone number where you can ask someone, BEWARE, for you may not be getting the CMO bargain that you think you are getting. You can count on EHP for quality and integrity when it comes to buying CMO.
Some products contain cetyl myristate as the main ingredient, not cetyl myristoleate, so be sure you are buying genuine cetyl myristoleate. Cetyl myristate is an ester of myristic acid, which is plentiful in vegetable sources Cetyl myristate can be made cheaply due to the large quantities of myristic acid in nature. Cetyl myristate is not the same as cetyl myristoleate. Unfortunately, some companies have marketed cetyl myristate with claims or labels that lead the consumer to confuse it with cetyl myristoleate.
Watch out for Vegetable Source Claims: Some distributors claim that their product is from a vegetable source. At the present time there is only one known vegetable-derived commodity or article of commerce that contains commercially viable concentrations of myristoleic acid, a necessary ingredient in manufacture of cetyl myristoleate. This material is known as kombo butter, and it comes from the kombo nut, which is native to Sierra Leone and Gabon in Africa. Real cetyl myristoleate products can be made from the kombo nut, but, unfortunately, the concentration of cetyl myristoleate will be low (considerably less than 15%).
As a practical matter, almost all cetyl myristoleate is made by using myristoleic acid derived from fatty acids from the large-scale manufacture of oleic acid or other sources of bovine products. These fats are generally available and contain sufficient amounts of myristoleic acid. Anyone buying a cetyl myristoleate product claimed to be from a vegetable source should demand incontrovertible proof of the vegetable source, if one of the reasons for the purchase is the alleged vegetable source. If the distributor will not certify that the source of the myristoleic acid is kombo butter, then you will not be getting a bona-fide CMO vegetable product.

None of the statements in these web pages have been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Wikipedia on CMO
Cetyl Myristoleate is the cetyl ester of myristoleic acid. It has multiple biological properties, including as an anti-inflammatory and a pain reliever, as well as being an immune system modulator. It was discovered in the early 1960s by Harry W. Diehl [1]. Mr. Diehl was a research chemist working in sugar metabolism at the National Institutes of Health in the Laboratory of Chemistry of the National Institute of Arthritis, Metabolic, and Digestive Diseases in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Diehl studied the seeming immunity of mice to arthritis, and discovered cetyl myristoleate (CM8™) through his investigations, testing and analysis.
Diehl’s research on cetyl myristoleate was published in the March 1994 issue of the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association and the American Chemical Society. Mr. Diehl received three U.S. Patents for “use” on cetyl myristoleate, the first in 1977 on cetyl myristoleate [2], the second in 1978 for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis [3], and then in 1996 for the treatment on osteo-arthritis [4]. After receiving his first “use” patent, Mr. Diehl immediately approached the pharmaceutical industry stalwarts, including Pfizer and Merck, with his discovery, but they declined. This was mainly due to rules concerning patents on natural products, & because cetyl myristoleate was a natural substance and could not be granted a “product” patent, which meant that there would not be any exclusivity, thus eliminating the prospects of huge profits. Since he was a scientist and not a marketing specialist, Mr. Diehl knew of no other way to bring Cetyl Myristoleate to the public, and consequently his discovery sat on the shelf collecting dust until 1991 when he, himself, developed arthritis.
As Diehl got older, he began to experience some osteoarthritis in his hands, knees, and the heels of his feet. His family physician tried the usual regimen of cortisone and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs without much effect on the course of the disease. Finally his physician told Harry he could not have any more cortisone. "So," Diehl said, "I thought about my discovery, and I decided to make a batch and use it on myself." He did, and the symptoms of osteo-arthritis disappeared. Cetyl myristoleate appeared on the market as a supplement in 1991. Although not as well known as glucosamine and/or chondroitin, there is a growing awareness that cetyl myristoleate equals or surpasses them in the treatment of the body pains brought on by various maladies such as bursitis, gout, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and sports related injuries.
Subsequently, an independent clinical research study was performed in 1997 by Dr. H. Siemandi, M.D., et al. [5] on the claims of Dr. Diehl as published in the March 1994 issue of the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the prestigious peer review journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association and the American Chemical Society (VOL 83, #3, March 1994, pages 296-299). This trial confirmed Dr. Diehl's findings of the success of CM8. Here are the condensed highlights & published results of this independent Randomized Clinical Trial, Published 1997, Second Quarter, Dr. H. Siemandi, M.D., et al:
Objective Recent published reports offer anecdotal evidence that Cetyl Myristoleate may provide significant amelioration of various arthritic conditions. We set out to perform controlled studies to determine if this material was efficacious, either in the short term, or in some measurable manner, over a much longer period.
Methods A prospective, randomized study design was used to allocate patients to receive Cetyl Myristoleate, Cetyl Myristoleate plus Glucosamine hydrochloride (GH), sea cucumber (SC) and hydrolyzed cartilage (HC) and a placebo. Results. At the start of this study, the duration, severity, and pattern of arthritic episodes were found to be similar in the 3 treatment groups. At the end of the study it was found that the number of arthritic episodes was significantly reduced, and the duration of episode-free time was significantly prolonged, in the two Cetyl Myristoleate groups compared with the placebo group.
Conclusion Cetyl Myristoleate treatment and Cetyl Myristoleate plus GH, SC & HC were demonstrated to offer significant benefits over the placebo in the prevention of arthritic episodes. It was further determined that these results could not be obtained with other standard arthritic therapies based upon exhaustive reviews of patient records prior to opening of the study. Cetyl Myristoleate and Cetyl Myristoleate plus GH, SC & HC treatment also seems to permit some relief to autoimmune inflammatory diseases, which may prove to be long-term. This finding could provide additional evidence for the theory, reflected by the earlier anecdotal evidence as well as some animal studies, that Cetyl Myristoleate and Cetyl Myristoleate plus GS, SC & HC may prove to be of major benefit in the future treatment of autoimmune diseases. The terms ARTHRITIS AND PSORIASIS have come to some permanent and some transient. Each condition, however, is typified by certain common elements such as some sort of inflammatory response with resulting pain, various forms of cellular degeneration and frequently, permanent loss of mobility and quality of life. With the exception of Osteoarthritis, most researchers are beginning to believe all arthritic conditions may have a common, albeit many-faceted, etiology - autoimmune dysfunction. Unfortunately the great number and complexity of immune system components and their diverse interplay has made this theory difficult to prove. While it has not been proven, the original research done on Cetyl Myristoleate at NIH indicates a direct connection between the observed effect of Cetyl Myristoleate and some ability of Cetyl Myristoleate to correct certain immune dysfunction, which may cause many arthritic conditions."
The complete results of this Independent Clinical Research Trial in their entirety as well as supporting Reference Sources, can be found at the Harry Diehl website [6].
A second Independent Clinical Trial, performed by the San Diego Clinic Immunological Center, entitled "Clinical Study On Cetyl Myristoleate (CM8™) vs Arthritis" further confirmed the findings of both Dr. Diehl and Dr. Siemandi, and quantified the dosage and conditions for successful treatment of arthritis using CM8, and identifying conditions which might inhibit its effectiveness. The complete results of this Independent Clinical Research Trial in their entirety can also be found on the Harry Diehl website

Application: Three Myristin® softgels are taken daily with water on an empty stomach, about 30-45 minutes before meals, or just before meals if that fits your daily schedule better.
Three Myrist-Aid capsules are taken with each Myristin® softgel at lunch and dinner, and two at breakfast for a total of eight Myrist-Aid daily.
If taking the lunch time Myristin / Myrist-Aid capsules is inconvenient, these can be taken before bedtime instead.
Myristin Topical Cream: 2 oz jar
Upon arising in the morning and at bedtime, just massage Myristin® Cream on the areas where you have pain. It will be absorbed within a few minutes, and you will enjoy the pleasant, fresh odor while you rub it in. Always apply Myristin® Cream to clean skin only since it is designed to be absorbed deep into underlying tissues.
Myristin® Cream, when applied in an average quantity to an affected area, will rub in within one minute. A larger than average amount will require about two minutes to rub in. The menthol odor, which most people regard as pleasant, dissipates in about five minutes, depending on the quantity of cream applied.
For Animals
You can help your pet with the same Myristin and Myrist-Aid formulas their people take.
For veterinary use, we recommend Myristin be given on a weight basis for eight weeks with Myrist-Aid capsules as a synergist. The following is recommended:
Weight: Up to 40 lbs
1 Myrstin softgel daily
2 Myrist-Aid capsules daily
Weight: 41 to 100 lbs
2-3 Myrstin softgels daily
5-8 Myrist-Aid capsules daily
Weight: 101 to 200 lbs
3 Myristin softgels daily
8 Myrist-Aid capsules daily
For larger animals, such as horses, we recommend three kilograms of 20% CMO powder given over a two or three month period.
In general, three Myrist-Aid capsules are recommended per Myristin softgel, for up to 200 pound animals. If Myrist-Aid is not used, one lipase enzyme capsule can be given along with the Myristin softgels.
Myristin softgels and Myrist-Aid capsules should be opened and the contents placed on food.
If one or two Myristin softgels are the daily dose, they may be given at the same time if the owner prefers. If three or more Myristin softgels are the daily dose, it is recommended that one amount be given in the a.m. and the remainder in the p.m. However, if that is not feasible, all Myristin softgels can be given at one time.
If there are no results after two or three months of Myristin, additional courses would not be expected to produce results.
Some animals may achieve satisfactory results or better but may need to take a maintenance course, the needs for which may vary widely. For example, an animal weighing 100 pounds could need two Myristin softgels three times weekly, while another of the same weight may need one softgel every day. Most animals do not require this once satisfactory results are achieved with the supplement; however, horses seem to need a maintenance program more so than other animals.

Detoxification for Enhanced Myristin Usage
Your body eliminates toxins through several pathways. There are two forms of toxins, internal and external. Internal toxins are waste products produced by normal metabolic processes in your body. External toxins are poisons that are found in our environment. The FDA has approved over 70,000 chemicals to be used in our environment that are now found in our food, air and water supplies. Twenty-five per cent of these chemicals (this was written in 1996) are known carcinogens. As we age, the body's abilities to eliminate these poisons is diminished. Organs of elimination include the colon, liver, kidneys, skin and lungs.
Colon
It is critical that we improve the digestion of our food and decrease the delivery of undigested foods to the colon. Remember, one of the causes of rheumatoid arthritis may be due to large molecules of food in unusable forms entering the blood stream and causing a hyper-immune response. Enzyme therapy will be beneficial here. Go to the health food store and buy a formula that includes all of the digestive plant enzymes, including protease, lipase, amylase and cellulase; also the pancreatic enzymes, including trypsin. The enzymes should be taken with meals, and for those of you with digestive problems, the lipase may be helpful in digesting cetyl myrisoleate, which is an oil. Also increasing dietary fiber (fruits and vegetables again) decreases the time food spends in the digestive tract and is necessary for any beneficial detoxification program. For those of you who do not respond to the shotgun approach of enzyme therapy, please contact your chiropractor or naturopath who specializes in this field.
Liver
Remember your poor old liver is having to work overtime breaking down all those environmental toxins that we encounter every day. So give it a break and reduce your intake of unhealthy fats, refined sugars and processed foods, especially those with questionable additives, preservatives and colorings. Alcohol and certain drugs also cause liver damage.
For those of you with a history of alcohol, drug or steroid use, you may find emulsifying the cetyl myristoleate very difficult, and, therefore, it may not have the desired results. If this is the case, supplement the recommended treatment with some bile salts or lecithin, a very effective emulsifier.
Just a note: Before fats or oils can be broken down and absorbed, they must be emulsified. This is accomplished by the secretion of bile, which is manufactured by the liver and stored in the gall bladder. And for those with liver dysfunction, I recommend a combination of milk thistle extract (silymarin), crude licorice extract (glycyrrhizin). astragalus and schizandra for mild and effective detoxification.
Kidneys
Reducing your salt and meat consumption will help to reduce the stress to the kidneys and keep them functioning at an optimum level during detoxification. Again, reducing your intake of drugs, food additives and questionable chemicals is essential in helping to remove metabolic waste products and environmental poisons. Your kidneys will really appreciate also, the 2 -3 quarts of pure water you are now drinking.
Skin
Regular hot showers and baths that open the skin's pores while using an abrasive-like loofa sponge will support the skin's efforts in detoxifying. Hot baths, with Epsom salts help to draw the toxins out of the body through the skin. Regular exercise to the point of sweating will be very helpful.
Editor's Note: Using a loofa or natural-bristle brush will eliminate the build up of dead skin cells so that toxins can more easily be eliminated. It is actually more effective to use a loofa or brush before your shower or bath. Magnesium Oil and Miracle II in your bath will support the elimination of toxins through the skin. For a shower, be sure to use the Miracle II Soap.
Lungs
Part of your regular exercise should include aerobic exercise. I do not agree with the adage, "No pain, no gain," especially when trying to improve joint function. All exercise should be performed within the limits of pain. If your exercise starts to become painful, please stop. You can always put the painful one back into your routine later. You may, of course, experience some achiness or stiffness after starting any new exercise routine. This is to be expected since you're using some muscles that probably have not been used in some time. Achiness is alright, pain is not!
An exercise that is extremely powerful -- and like switching to distilled water will change your life -- is performing a deep breathing exercise. Deep breathing will provide oxygen to parts of your lungs that have not experienced fresh air in ages. It will also stimulate fresh blood supply to the now newly-reactivated parts of your lungs and increase the body's abilities to rid itself of volatile substances. Of course, aerobic exercise like swimming and jogging can do all of the above, but not to the degree like the focused breathing exercise that I'll describe below. I'm not an advocate of jogging since it can cause further damage to all your weight-bearing joints.
If you must jog, please wear the proper shoes to absorb shock and keep the proper biomechanics of your feet; custom orthotics that fit inside your shoes can be helpful here. Run on earth or sand surfaces, not on pavement or asphalt, and pick a location to run where you will not be forced to breathe automobile or factory exhausts. The Good Lord gave us only one liver to handle all these toxins.
My favorite breathing exercise is simple, but powerful. My recommendation is to do this three times a day if possible. If you can't do it three times, do it twice or even once. But do it! Find a quiet place where you won't be interrupted for five minutes. You can even do this in your car before you walk into your work place, but please shut off your ignition first. This might even make going to work a little easier! Take a deep breath through your nose, filling both your upper and lower lung lobes. You must use your diaphragm so your stomach must protrude outward and your chest must expand on full inhalation. Now hold it in for a count of four. Release your breath slowly through your mouth for twice as long as you inhaled. This will ensure that all of the air with the toxins, like carbon dioxide, exits your system. In other words, inhale to a count of eight, hold for a count of four and exhale for a count of sixteen. The numbers are arbitrary. Do what feels comfortable. Repeat this process ten times and try to do it three times a day. If you do this for one month, I guarantee you will no longer have the same body.
Final Thoughts
The one factor that seems to be the most important during the healing process of any physical ailment is attitude. I'm always hesitant to use numbers in describing anything so subjective as health, but if I were to try and objectify attitude, it would be at least 70% of the healing process. I have seen patients overcome insurmountable odds by becoming actively involved in their own care and heal from so-called incurable diseases. On the flip side, I have had patients who have "stinkin thinkin" and never recover from minor ailments that should have been resolved years ago.
Attitude not only means trying to hold a good thought during the healing, it means taking control of your own body, maybe for the first time in your life, and becoming an active participant. Educate yourselves at the library, on the Internet and ask your doctor (health care practitioner) questions. The information you gather will empower you to take an active role in your healing and remaining well. Look at disease not as something bad that has happened to you, but as an opportunity to dig a little deeper into yourself to find those inner strengths and the source of healing.
Please do not expect your physician to heal you; healing comes from within. If you have a great doctor, he or she may know what buttons to push to remove the obstacles to healing and maybe even teach you how to prevent future disease, but you must furnish that healing power. - Dr. Charles Cochran
Editor's Note: For those who experience arthritis, you may benefit from going within and examining where in your attitudes and life you have been inflexible. Changing beliefs around these issues may well be part of your healing process.
One Time Treatment Can Cure Arthritis for Good
Well, our new products, Myristin and its companion, Myrist-Aid may take several applications, but it seems to be very effective for arthritic conditions. The following article was featured in Dr. Jonathon Wright's newsletter several years ago. It chronicles somewhat the inception of what was to become Myristin and Myrist-Aid.
Long-time readers may remember our interview with former National Institutes of Health researcher Harry Diehl, published in August 1996. Although Harry had no professional degrees, he was an accomplished chemist and became intrigued by the observation that mice don't get degenerative arthritis (also known as osteoarthritis or OA). Working in his home lab, he analyzed literally thousands of mice, finally isolating a type of fatty acid called cetyl-myristoleate (CMO) not found in rats, which do get arthritis, or humans. He invented and patented the first process to duplicate CMO synthetically, creating bio-identical CMO.
Six Years Pain Free
When he tried the bio-identical CMO on arthritic rats, they were cured. But he couldn't interest any patent-medicine companies in CMO. So he let it go until he developed arthritis himself at age 80. Here's an excerpt from Harry's own account.
thought, here's a process I found years ago, just laying there. Nobody wants it, so why not cook myself up a batch? So I did. I took about a gram of the cetyl-myristoleate and about 10 cc's of DMSO and rubbed it into my hands a little a time over ten days. I said, 'many, I'm feeling better!' Then it's out of my knees, my heels . . . the pain's gone from everywhere! I had a lifelong headache nearly, and that disappeared. Hasn't been back since. I've been going to the hospital once or twice a year with bronchitis, and that quit too!
On January 1st (2005) it will be six years since I took any cetyl-myristoleate at all, and I haven't had a pain anywhere or any headaches for bronchitis since. My doctor was so impressed, he wrote a letter and sent it to a pharmaceutical journal, and they published my research in 1994.
New Research Supports Natural Arthritis Treatment
This year a new report on a human trial of "cetylated fatty acids" and arthritis was published. At the Human Performance Lab of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine two groups of 20 individuals with osteoarthritis were given either topical cetylated fatty acid (CFA) applications or a placebo application twice daily for 30 days.
Those in the cetylated fatty acid group had significant improvement compared to the placebo group. According to the researchers, use of a CFA topical cream is an effective treatment for improving knee range of motion, ability to ascend/descend stairs, ability to rise from sitting, walk and sit down and unilateral balance.
Cetylated fatty acids are a group of fatty acids that include CMO, but the compound used in the new study is not exactly the same as Harry Diehl's CMO. It's possible that it may even work better, but only a direct comparison trial will tell us that. If such a comparison is ever done, I'm putting my money on Harry Diehl's original CMO.
According to Harry's studies, the fatty acid cetyl-myristoleate (CMO) was the most active component of the factor he discovered to be protecting mice from arthritis. Until controlled research shows otherwise, I'll continue to believe him.
Although Harry amassed considerable experience with individual cases, there was no money available for expensive human trials. No patent medication company would do it. So Harry and his family raised some money and started producing CMO themselves.
The main problem was the cost. As Harry himself said: "I should warn you, it's expensive, the myristoleic acid I buy for the final step is high." With a price tag of several hundred dollars in 1996 many couldn't afford it. Fortunately the cost has come down considerably since then.
Complete Relief in Less than 12 Weeks
Harry Diehl isn't with us anymore, but his daughter and son-in-law continue his work and company, EHP Products. Harry later added cetyl myristate to his original component CMO and re-named the combination Myristin.
. . . As Harry said, "It does its job, and then most of us don't need it anymore." Harry used CMO only that one time and didn't continue taking it. He made it for friends who had the same experience.
I've asked Tahoma Clinic patients to try it, and although it doesn't work for everyone, the majority of those who've tried it have had substantial or complete relief.

Enhancing Your Myristin Usage
|
Many of our Members have purchased our new product which addresses arthritic conditions. Dr. Charles Cochran, in the article below, tells you how to enhance your process of healing.
What Causes Arthritis? The causes are varied and many.. They include trauma with joint instability, aging with increased body weight (causing increased weight-bearing on the joints), altered biochemistry, hormonal changes and genetic factors. It is now also accepted among most rheumatologists and allergists that some people have allergy-induced arthritis. Mental-emotional stresses induce cortisone deficiencies in the body, which can also be a factor in some forms of arthritis.
How can one product address all of the causes of this complex disease? Cetyl myristoleate seems to function in three very different capacities.
1. It lubricates not only the involved joints, but also the entire body, making muscles glide more smoothly over other muscles, bursas and bones, and at the same time softens these tissues, making them more pliable.
2. It appears to function as an immune system modulator. This may be the reason it has been found to be so effective in treating autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosis and multiple sclerosis. 3. It functions like one of the good fatty acids in that it mediates inflammatory processes. When cooled, cetyl myristoleate is a waxy substance and, at room temperature, it has a buttery consistency.
There are many factors to consider when treating and trying to prevent arthritic symptoms from returning. The primary considerations would be diet and nutrition (including possible food allergies), elimination of poisons or toxins in the body (referred to as detoxification), proper exercise and stress reduction.
Diet: Information on proper eating abounds. Here are some key factors:
Eat more fruits and vegetables. If available, choose organic; they're more likely to contain all the vitamins and minerals needed for healthy tissue growth and contain none of the dangerous pesticides and insecticides that cause liver damage.
Eat more cold water fish such as salmon, herring (not kippered or pickled), fresh sardines, albacore tuna and mackerel. These provide sources for omega-3 fatty acids, which decrease the inflammation and pain of arthritis.. They also decrease the amount of cholesterol that the liver produces, thus thinning the blood, making clots less likely to form and reducing plaques on the blood vessel walls.
Decrease meat consumption. Animal meats, especially organ meats, are high in purines which break down to uric acid, the primary cause of gout. Meat is also loaded with the essential fatty acid, arachadonic acid, which also increases joint inflammation. Of course meat also contains all the unhealthy fats that lead to obesity, heart disease, some cancers, and it increases inflammatory processes. Unless organic, it also contains steroids and other drugs given the animal, which are passed on to your system.
Consider being tested for food allergies. Certain plants belonging to the Solanaceae, or nightshade, family are known to increase the symptoms of certain arthritic conditions. The nightshade family includes tomatoes, white potatoes, hot and sweet peppers, eggplant and tobacco. These plants are known to product crippling conditions in grazing animals. Dairy products, margarine, shortening, caffeine, alcohols and sugar should also be dramatically reduced or eliminated from your diet.*
Drink Water: One of the most important actions that you can take to decrease arthritic symptoms and increase your overall well-being is to increase your daily water consumption. Drinking 2-3 quarts of distilled water** will do more for your health than any of my other suggestions.
Distilled water is a powerfully therapeutic agent. Because of water's ability to attach to other molecules, distilled water, which has nothing attached to the water molecule, can help leach many of the undesired mineral deposits found in your joints and other tissues and organs and help eliminate them from your body. Be careful with mineral water, which provides mineral in a form that your body has difficulty breaking down and using. These minerals then get deposited in your joints, kidneys and blood vessels. Your body finds it easier to break down minerals that come from fruits and vegetables than mineral that come directly from the ground.
Chronic pains in the body are often indicators of dehydration. Many times we misinterpret our cravings for water and eat more food rather than drinking the water that our body so desperately needs to carry on all of its functions. The next time you find yourself craving something, try drinking a couple of glasses of distilled water. I promise you, it will change your life. The first thought you should have when any pain arises is "my body is severely short on water!"
* There are numerous healthy substitutes for these unhealthy foods. For instance, instead of refined sugar you have the option of stevia, xylitol or agave nectar; rice, almond, oat, goat's or hemp milk is healthier than cow's milk.
** Enhance your hydration with any or all of our Water Transformation products. The Prill and/or Cosmic Energy Stones, used in distilled water, causes your water to more easily penetrate and hydrate the cells while assisting in detoxification. The Stirwands offer other benefits such as increasing oxygenation of the blood.

CMO – Nature’s Answer to Arthritis
I had heard a lot of unbelievable stories before trying cetyl myristoleate, and I have heard quite a few since. In fact, there is one MD who wrote that it would be of benefit in treating anything from rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes to migraine headaches and schizophrenia. I'd also heard claims that arthritis sufferers had complete remission of symptoms after completing only one month of treatment. Well, needless to say, I was more than a bit skeptical. I've always been a little bit of a risk taker though, and since no one had noted any side effects I decided to give it a try. If it proved to be only half as effective as what I had been hearing, I knew I was on to something fantastic.
With the malpractice situation being what it is and all the hungry attorneys out there, I decided to try the product on myself first. I have suffered with arthritis since 1967, when I tore all the supportive tissue in my shoulder during a motorcycle accident. I've had three separate surgeries for chronic dislocation after the accident and many, many trips to an orthopod for steroid injections so I could keep working. Being a chiropractor, I was always a bit humbled when I had to go for those injections, but they did give me some temporary relief. If injected in the right spot, the stuff was magic. But unfortunately, all of the symptoms would return after two or three weeks. I knew how dangerous continuing injections of steroids were, but it was all I had to keep me working.
In 1988 I discovered the benefits of glucosamine sulfate. It wasn't the magical pain reliever that prednisone was, but after ten to twelve weeks of daily use, I started to feel a fluid movement in my shoulder that I hadn't experienced in years. The pain and inflammation were almost gone. What a miracle! I immediately started to share with all of my arthritic patients. I shared it with my dad, who is also a chiropractor and was actually considering retirement because of the arthritis in his hands. Within a few months most of his joint pain was gone. I had a little difficulty, however, convincing my patients of the benefits of glucosamine sulfate because it took so long before any of the desired results were noticed, and it is quite an expensive product. When patients stopped taking it, the symptoms would soon reappear. But I loved it and, in spite of the cost, took it every day.
Last year a friend of mine shared the story of cetyl myristoleate. I still had some residual shoulder pain -- a dull ache that was there most of the time. I really wasn't aware of it much except at night when I rolled over on my right side and the pain would increase only to eventually wake me up. This would happen five or six times each night. I assumed this was a sign of getting older since all of my more mature patients told me that as I "matured" I wouldn't be able to sleep as soundly or as long. Well, they were wrong. After taking the cetyl myristoleate for only four days, I had my first good night's sleep in years! I remember waking up on my right shoulder early in the morning with no shoulder pain. I was afraid to say anything, though, fearing that I might jinx the whole thing. But this was enough for me to start sharing it with my patients. I have since recommended various forms of it to several hundred people with different types of arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Based on this experience I can say with all the conviction one could muster up that cetyl myristoleate may well be one of the major nutritional discoveries of the century.
How Does It Work?
As wonderful as CMO is, I have found a few limitations and a few other products that enhance its effectiveness. But first let me describe the results I have found in my clinic.
I am a chiropractor with post-graduate training in acupuncture. My practice is primarily treating musculoskeletal problems, so I don't have much to say about treating conditions like Crohn's disease or schizophrenia. But I can tell you this: cetyl myristoleate, without any complementary nutrients, has proven to be at least 70% effective in treating the various forms of arthritis. The results are relatively fast. And, after completing a one-month program, only a handful of my patients required a full follow-up treatment with a few more needing small, occasional maintenance doses. By using the topical lotion of cetyl myristoleate and adding a few complementary nutritional products like glucosamine sulfate and methylsulfonylmethane, I believe the effectiveness can be increased by another 15% or so. I no longer had to sell my patients on sticking to many months of arthritis supplements and waiting for results. This was exciting!
There seems to be a consensus among the health care practitioners with whom I have communicated as to its level of function. First, CMO works as a surfactant, which tends to lubricate tissues and thin the synovial fluids, making them less sticky. This allows the joint to move more freely. Secondly, it functions like the omega-3 fatty acids in regulating prostaglandin and leukotriene production to decrease inflammation. And last, it has an immuno-modulating effect on hyper-immune responses such as we find in rheumatoid arthritis and, as some believe, in non-infective prostatitis.
Absorption of cetyl myristoleate can be a little tricky, so I recommend each capsule of cetyl myristoleate be taken with lipase. Many arthritis victims have decreased or absent production of lipase, the enzyme that breaks down oils and fats into small, more absorbable particles, so it is good to add this enzyme to the treatment plan. Furthermore, cholecystectomy patients or those with a history of liver or gall bladder disease or obstruction may also have trouble absorbing cetyl myristoleate without further help. For these patients I recommend lecithin along with lipase to emulsify the oil.

Newsletter Notes
For several weeks I have been hinting that we will have an answer for people who are suffering from arthritis, both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The answer is Cetyl-Myristoleate, often referred to as CMO.
What is important for you to note is that the vast majority of people suffering from arthritis -- either form -- experience almost total relief from their pains and suffering after using these products for only two to three months. Many never have another occurrence of arthritis symptoms, but some will find that they will need to continue at a low maintenance level. Others will find that they can stop using these products for several years before they need to again do the two month protocol.
The new products are in the shopping cart under the new category of CMO. Although the three products are offered individually, I want you to understand that the best and quickest results are gained when you work with at least the Myristin Soft Gel capsules and the Myristin-Aid capsules together.
I am going to shoot real straight with you. In order to complete the two to three month protocol that delivers astounding results for over 80% of clients, you may need three or four of the three product packages. So, you may need to invest about $250 to have an 80% chance of being pain free. I don't know anyone with crippling arthritis who wouldn't make that investment, especially when it is backed by the Global Light guarantee of satisfaction.
This is not a fly-by-night product without a track record. Bill and Elaine Parrish have been offering these products for 15 years, and the testimonials keep rolling in. I should point out that Elaine is Harry Diehl's daughter, and their company was originally formed in partnership with the developer, Harry Diehl. There are other CMO products out there now, but none of them offer 40% CMO concentration like in the Myristin Soft Gel capsules. This is the real thing, and we truly believe that it is superior to ANYTHING available in the marketplace, CMO based or otherwise.
When I think back to the pain my mother endured years ago, I just wish we had known of these products. Certainly I come from a heritage of arthritis, but I have been blessed and only occasionally have little bouts. Just as insurance, I am going to do the two month protocol . . . I don't need to wait until it becomes serious.
Testimonials
-I just want to take a moment to thank for introducing me to Myristin. I know that aches and pains are supposed to be accepted as part of the aging process, but I still don’t have to like it. For the last five years both of my knees had begun to ache for hours on end with every weather front that occurred. I had taken Lodine for the last three years, which gave me relief from the pain but had begun to cause me such severe edema and stomach discomfort that I had to stop taking it unless the pain was unbearable. Many nights I just paced the floor until the hurting stopped. I had really begun to worry about what I was going to do for pain relief when I heard from you.
You told me about Myristin and the impact it had on osteoarthritis as well as rheumatoid arthritis. Being an registered nurse and seeing first-hand what the long-term effects of arthritis are, I knew that I had to try it. The results have been life-altering. My knee pain is gone as well as headaches that I believe were also weather related. After my second regimen my injury in 1979 improved at least 50%. Believe me, I’ll take a reduction in pain and a 50% improvement in range-of-motion any time!
Just in case Myristin could make me a totally new woman, I tried round three. Now my heel spurs are gone! I feel better than I have in a long time and am very grateful to you for making this supplement available to people in pain. I truly does miraculous things. C.R., RN
- I have used the Myristin now on myself and my 5-1/2 year old Dalmation/Lab mix for a year, and I can’t tell you how happy we both are. I feel like I have no arthritis at all. We stop for two weeks and give our system a rest, always knowing that we may need to go back on the CM. M.W.
- This stuff works great! My hands were frozen shut each morning. Now my left hand is completely free and my right hand is about 50% arthritis free. J.H., WA
- Thank you for Myristin. After one month of usage, I was 80% pain free, and I never take these NSAR pills anymore. And that was about a year ago. I am sure it is because of Myristin. The diagnosis is: spondylitis ankylosans (Morbus Bechterew) A.R.
- I had not been to a chiropractor for awhile and so when my son hurt his back at work and had to go to the chiropractor, I decided to start again. He took x-rays and said that among other things I had arthritis starting in my back. I decided to take Myristin as it had helped not only my friends, but also my dog. (The vet said that due to hip dysplasia she would get arthritis and recommended I give her Myristin before the arthritis appeared.) Three years later tests show no arthritis.
I took one course, and after about 30 days I realized that my ankles didn't hurt when I got out of the car after working all day. I hadn't realized I had arthritis in my ankles. This last year my chiropractor took a follow-up x-ray, and when I asked him how my arthritis was doing, he said "what arthritis?"
He is very interested in the Myristin and this proof that it really works. Thanks for this wonderful product. Now I tell anyone who will listen about it. P.Y., WA
- I received the capsules of Myristin on September 23rd and started taking them (one in the morning, one in the evening) the next day. Specifically I had ordered these because I was diagnosed as having arthritis of the left shoulder, which was becoming progressively worse. By this I mean that my range of motion was becoming more and more limited, the bone popped in the shoulder socket whenever I moved it very far and the arm was becoming weaker. This started approximately 2 - 2-1/2 years ago.
By the second and third day I noticed an improvement. By the fourth and fifth day, a great improvement. My range of motion was much greater and the bone hardly ever popped when I moved the joint.
Normally I go to a physical therapist every two weeks for this problem and also for a problem with one knee from an old injury. When I went to the therapist on Wednesday this week (October 16th) he checked the range of motion in the shoulder and found it was normal, whereas before it had been only a fraction of a percentage of normal. He couldn't believe his own eyes.
I have just a very, very slight amount of pain still in the shoulder when it is moved to an extreme position. However, I am hoping that after the second round of Myristin this too will disappear. L.G., FL
- Thank you for Myristin. After one month of usage, I was 80% pain free, and I never take these NSAR pills anymore. And that was about a year ago. I am sure it is because of Myristin. The diagnosis is: spondylitis ankylosans. M.B, AR

- I wanted to write to you to let you know how much Myristin helped my arthritic shoulder. As you remember, for about three years, I could not lift my right arm much above my waist. My othopedist injected it four times with a cortisone-type drug, and my husband, who is a physician, also injected it. While the injections gave me some relief, there were many side effects. I couldn't take anymore injections, and nothing else helped much. I didn't know what I was going to do.
Then you told me about Myristin. After taking as recommended, I could not believe the results. After a couple of weeks, there was dramatic improvement. I could move my arm in a full range of motion without pain. I felt like a new person. I was so happy to get back to normal after being restricted by my condition for so long. I'm now pain-free and able to do what I want with my right arm.
I am going to recommend Myristin to all my friends and family who have arthritis. It is truly a wonderful thing to be free of arthritis pain, and I want everyone to know about Myristin. J.O., CA
- I practice alternative medicine, specifically naturopathic medicine. I have a degree in chiropractic and am a board-certified chiropractic internist. I also have a degree as a naturopath.
In my offices we see patients with a wide variety of health conditions. Mainly we deal with chronic illnesses. This includes people with heart or lung diseases, vascular problems, diabetes, arthritis, immune disorders, etc.
As you know, I have used CMO in my practice for nearly ten years now.
I have never observed any adverse effects in patients who took it. I am unaware of any allergic reactions nor any undesirable side effects. I have used it with children in their early teens and with geriatric patients. I have used it with patients who have a variety of allergies, but no one seemed to have an allergic reaction to CMO/Myristin.
I have found it to be effective in the treatment of a variety of conditions. I use it mostly with arthritic patients -- both inflammatory and chronic degenerative. I also use it for tendonitis and with chronic pulmonary problems, such as chronic bronchitis. I have used it in chronic inflammatory conditions of all types, in fact.
Years ago I sometimes used it as a monotherapy -- wanting to observe the effects on the patient of taking a single product. The effects were very good. Now I use CMO as a complementary component of the overall therapeutic program of several patients.
I have recommended it to many doctors as well as to many, many patients.
It is a terrific neutraceutical product! Dr. David B. Clark, Missouri
- Thank you so much for the Myristin and Myrist-Aid. It is the best product I have ever used to relieve the pain, swelling and immobility caused by the psoriatic arthritis I've had for nine years. The only side effects I've experienced is some constipation, and my severe migraines disappeared after the first kit. And I don't miss them!
At first I experienced a lot of breakthrough pain for about a month. It was like it was stirring everything up and kicking it out. But then by the second kit my joints and muscles started to feel more loose and much better. I got an average of about 60% better all over my body, and that's amazing because at that time I had it in 26 areas. Using the lotion at bedtime was and is really helpful. My range of motion in my right shoulder has gotten a lot better. Before I couldn't even raise my arm past my chest and now (actually since two years ago) after about the second kit I can rotate it completely around, forwards and backwards. I am astounded at how long the effects last. For me it's usually about five months. And then I just do it again. My pain isn't completely gone, but let's put it this way. My old rheumatologist told me I'd be in a wheelchair in 3-4 years - and that was five years ago. I now have two part-time jobs, can run on the beach and best all . . . go dancing.
You can share this with anyone you want and please tell them from me: if you have, or anyone you know and love has, painful swollen joints, muscle tightness, migraine headaches, sports or car accident injuries or extremely dry skin. YOU NEED TO GET AND USE THESE PRODUCTS! They work great! Stop suffering and start living again. It's so easy to use; just mind the rules. I've noticed the no coffee rule is extremely important. The Myristin just doesn't absorb properly when you drink coffee. Last thing . . . the Myristin lotion is something beyond words to take away pain anywhere. I call it "liquid gold." Let your massage therapist use it instead of his/her regular oil and you'll probably have the best massage experience ever, without the muscle soreness the next day commonly associated with deep massage. Thank you for changing my life for the better. G.R., HI
- The product has definitely helped me. I am grateful to put in mildly.
After the second round of Myristin (a month after the first), I noticed a big change in the pain in my hip -- it was gone! Nothing really changed after the first round, but after the second one, the pain in my back was also gone. My fingers continued to ache, but as of this writing, the pain there is also gone -- what a wonderful feeling. To say "thank you" sounds trite . . . but THANK YOU! S.S., North Carolina
- Two months ago I had a routine physical. My physician informed me that I should lose ten pounds and watch my diet, as my blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure were too high.
For Father's Day and my 66th birthday my daughter gave me 8 capsules of Myristin as a gift. She hoped this dietary supplement would reduce the arthritic pain I have suffered with for many years. I took the first four capsules on June 18-19th.
My stiffness upon awakening has subsided since taking the first four capsules. When I went back to my doctor on July 19th, my blood sugar level had dropped from 163 to 113, my cholesterol count was down, and he took me off a blood pressure medication I had been taking for two years because that was now normal!
I had lost the ten pounds and had been watching my diet as my physician had urged me to do, although my diet was not as good as I'm sure it should have been. My doctor and I were both very pleased with the results of my test that day. In fact, he shook my hand and said, "thank you, Mr. R., you made my day." I have never had a doctor say something like that to me before.
I will take the next four capsules of Myristin over the next two days. I look forward to a further reduction of my arthritic pain. I believe that this dietary supplement, along with a better diet, is a contributing factor to my improved health. My sincere thanks. W.R., Missouri
- I am writing to tell you how happy I am with your topical cream. I had suffered from severe knee pain for the last three years. Prescription anti-inflammatories gave me relief, but after two years of continual use, I had to discontinue them due to increased stomach discomfort and other GI upsets, including diarrhea. Other advertised topicals gave me no pain relief at all . . . just an interesting smell and grease stains.
The beauty of your Myristin Topical Cream has been three-fold for me. Most importantly, just moments after applying it, I felt a cool sensation followed by the disappearance of pain. The relief was miraculous. It only took a fingertip's worth to cover both knees, so a little goes a long way! Also, it is absorbed in just moments, so there is no residue to stain or adhere to clothing, and last . . . there is no medicinal smell.
How wonderful there is something so simple, so effective and so affordable now available for all the people who suffer with joint aches and chronic pain. C. R., Kentucky
- I thought you'd like to know that we ordered the Myristin products, not for ourselves, but for our dog, Clyde. He had begun to suffer from arthritis in his rear hips. It hurt him to stand and eat his dinner, even with the bowl lifted up, so he'd never finish. It was much like some years ago when he had a herniated disk in his lower neck for which he received spinal surgery. But this time the vet was able to confirm arthritis (Clyde is an older dog.)
You should see him now! He runs and plays with the others like a puppy. He no longer "tucks" his rear -- he stands steadily on his rear legs and is back to eating and finishing his home-cooked dinner with gusto.
I am so glad to know about this product and will recommend it to everyone -- for themselves and their pets. C.W. US
